XVI. It's not the Media, It's you! (Media Literacy)
Last November 25, we were told that we wuld not have classes and that we need to go to the auditorium because we are going to listen to a talk by the people behind Subselfie. It was one of those days that I felt like the last thing that I needed in the world is a seminar about Media Literacy. I thought that it was going to be a very boring and cliche speeches. I expected that I would be able to catch up on my lack of sleep while the seminar was on going but boy was I wrong.

Edma Remillano is the Manager for advocacies of SubSelfie and is the news writer for State od The Nation's Address with jessica Soho, she also has her own business "Edma's Homemade cuppackes". Lian Buan is the Associate Editor of SubSelfie and is the Associate Producer for segments in the State of the Nation's Address with Jessica Soho. And lastly Sophia Balod, she is the Visual Arts Manager, and is the segment producer for Balitanghali, Saksi and State of the Nation's Address with Jessica Soho.
The three speaker talked about different topics but what I really got from them was that since the media here in our country is very rating driven, if ever you find something that is nonsense, annoying and a complete waste of time being aired on television please do not watch it. Do not watch it, so that the rating would go down and the media people would start talking about the things that actually matter. Watching something that you get annoyed to or patronizing something even if you are against whatever is happening would only sustain the channel the ratings would need therefore they would not change the content of their show.
Another thing that I learned is that, it is not the media that changes the people. It is not the media that is a lie. It is us. If we let the media change us, it would be entirely our fault. If we lie in social media sites about who we are, we would only be fooling ourselves. Social media and other types of media is nothing but merely a tool to communicate, to educate and to inspire. If you let it control you, there would be no one to blame but you and only you.
