A Filipino author, an essayist, a dramatist and a National Artist of the Philippines for literature. He is Alejandro Reyes Roces. He has done so much and yet, not a lot of people know him (I am also guilty *wink*).

He was born on July 13, 1924 in Manila. Studied in Ateneo de Manila in his elemntary and high school. But during his college years he left for Arizona and got his diploma for B.A Fine Arts in the Arizona State University. He went back here in the Philippines and attained his M.A in the Far Eastern Universit and received honorary doctorates in Tokyo University, St Louis University f Baguio, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University,

You may have read some of his works but forgot his name, one of his most famous works is My brothers Peculiar Chicken. A story that I think every high school-er has read. When Roces was in Arizona state University, his short stroy "We Filipinos are mild drinkers" won first prize.

Not only that Roces is remarkable in the Philippine Literature but also in the Philippine History. Roces is the one who lead in mving the Philippine Indepence day from June 4 to June 12, and was a great influence in changing the language used in the country's stamps, currency and passport from English to Filipino.

Roces, passed away on May 23, 2011 but his works and everything that he has done is now part f history and will never be forgotten.
